Obituary for Betty A Babey

Betty A Babey (nee Bayus), 83 of Hillsborough, NJ died peacefully of natural causes at her home on May 17, 2020 surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Somerville, NJ to her parents, the late Andrew and Rose Bayus. Residing in Raritan NJ, she graduated Somerville High School in 1954. In 1957, Betty married the love of her life John Babey. Betty and John would eventually move to Hillsborough where she and her family have resided for over 50 years.

Betty worked for over 30 years in the lab department at Somerset Medical Center before retiring in 2003.

Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband John and her get togethers with her longtime friends and the newer friends she had made from work.

Betty cherished her time with her family especially all the family meals and family events. Her favorite times of the year were the holidays where she would spend hours sometimes days baking her delicious apple and pumpkin pies before Thanksgiving for the family to enjoy. Before Christmas, she would spend all day decorating the Christmas tree to get it just right.

Betty became a diehard Rutgers basketball and football fan and season ticket holder. In her later years, even as it was becoming tougher for her to get around, Betty was still determined not to miss a game and going to the RAC would really put a smile on her face. She took inspiration from Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand and simply loved the Scarlet Knight mascot horse!

Betty also loved to spend time working in her flower garden. She also took joy in feeding the many deer and birds that would visit her backyard everyday. In her younger years, Betty played basketball and competed in a bowling league.

Betty is predeceased by her father Andrew Bayus and her mother Rose Bayus. She was predeceased by her husband John Babey in 1998. Betty is survived by her sister Marian Seemar of Hillside NJ. She leaves behind four children, Nancy Scherer of Hillsborough, Gary Babey of Hillsborough, Michael Babey and wife Godelieve of Hillsborough, and Mark Babey of Belle Mead. Betty is also survived by her grandchildren, Scott Scherer and wife Courtney, Ashley Scherer, Tyler Babey, and Dale Babey and two great grandchildren Mikayla and Naylee. Betty also leaves behind her cat Sunshine.

An animal lover and owner of many cats and dogs through the years, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to St Hubert's Animal Welfare Center
