Obituary for Charlotte E Ricciardi

It’s astonishing that the world keeps humming even when someone you loved with all your heart falls silent. In the wee hours of the morning on Friday, August 28, 2020 Charlotte Ricciardi passed peacefully into the arms of our heavenly Father. She was 80 years old. Those she left behind will become the guardians of memories, and the story tellers of her life for generations to come.

Born and raised in Staten Island, NY, Charlotte was the middle child of an Irish immigrant mother. She attended Port Richmond High School and earned her GED later in life.
She was a young, hard-working single mother who raised four children. While on Staten Island she and her children moved around a lot, but no matter where they called home, her children recall their house was always filled with friends who all loved their mom as their own.
Throughout her years, Charlotte held a variety of jobs: a beautician at Women’s World and Mr. Phil’s, a jewelry counter clerk at K-mart, a nurse’s aide, ward clerk and housekeeper at Doctors Hospital on S.I. and a cashier for Home Depot in NJ and FL. When her aging parents needed assistance, without batting an eye, Charlotte relocated to Brooksville, Florida where she enjoyed many years with family and eventually retired.

She had a quick wit and great sense of humor. She loved animals, the beach, and the mountains of upstate New York. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword, Sudoku and board puzzles.

Charlotte had a passion for dancing and as child danced on the Ed Sullivan show with her dance troop. She was an incredibly talented artist and master crafter. There was no medium that eluded her. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, beading, crocheting, soap making, cake decorating, painting, stained glass, painting kiln fired porcelain dolls, and sculpting Santa Claus figurines. She would improve upon existing patterns or create one of her own, adding her own unique touch to everything she made. She would often give her creations to family and friends as birthday or Christmas presents.

She is pre-deceased by her second husband Peter Ricciardi, her parents, Emily Windsor (Wright) and Kenneth Windsor, and her brother, Kenneth Windsor.
Charlotte is survived by her sons Michael Penchenski (companion Clare Kinch), Mark Penchenski (wife Ellen), her daughters Diane Schambra and Karen Edwards (husband Paul). Six precious grandchildren, Madison and Melody Penchenski, Matthew Penchenski, Nell Schambra, Ryan and Jack Edwards. Her adoring “Sissie” Lee Kramer. Her loving aunt, niece, nephews and many cousins and friends.

Charlotte was happiest being with family and friends playing a game of charades or working on her latest project in her craft room in Florida.

The heavenly skies are a big canvas, so the next time you gaze upon an evening sky, take notice of the vibrant mix of colors from an artist’s palette, as Charlotte just may have lent a helping hand in painting that amazing sunset.

A private burial of Charlotte’s cremated ashes and a family celebration of life memorial is planned for a future date. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hillsborough Funeral Home, Hillsborough, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlotte’s name can be made to a charity of your choice.
