Obituary for Eva M Kuhl

On Friday, June 19, 2020 Eva-Maria Kuhl passed away at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Center in Somerville, New Jersey.

Eva-Maria Gertrude Kuhl (née Kober) was born on September 23, 1933 in the German province of East Prussia in the town of Albrechtsfelde. She was the first born child of Otto Kober and Gertrude Haerich. The family soon expanded with the birth of her brother, Gerhard, and later twin sisters Adelheid and Hildegard.

Her family came into being during a time of great economic calamity and poverty that existed in Germany between the World Wars. Food was difficult to find, but also came from their efforts at farming. Clothing was scarce and often hand-made. But what the family had in abundance was their faith in Jesus as they expressed it through their Seventh Day Adventist faith. Every Saturday, they gathered in church with the rest of the local congregation for Bible study and worship service.

When the Second World War broke out, Eva-Maria’s family had to adapt to even greater difficulties and also uncertainty as to the fate of family members at the front. After the war the family was reunited and lived in Berlin until they were given clearance in April 1954 to come to the United States.

In 1956 she met Horst Guenter Kuhl. They married in 1958 and settled in Bogota, New Jersey. In 1960 her eldest son, Klaus-Peter was born; in March of 1963 her youngest son, Kenneth Ronald arrived. She devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mother and continued her devotion to the Seventh Day Adventist Church by attending church services in Hackensack and Wayne. After her boys got older, she worked for many years as a secretary at Navy Arms Company in Ridgefield, NJ.

In February of 1996, her husband Horst passed away and she soon after retired to focus her attention on her grandchildren and also her church activities.

She is survived by her brother, Gerhard Kober, and sisters, Adelheid Forgett and Hildegard Keener; sons, Klaus-Peter Dimitrov-Kuhl and Kenneth Ronald Kuhl; daughters-in-law Margareth Dimitrov-Kuhl and Lydia Piergut; grandchildren, Caitlin Murano, Brianna Kuhl, Lauren Cordes, Kristen Dimitrov-Kuhl, Michael Kuhl, Alex Dimitrov-Kuhl, and Luke Dimitrov-Kuhl; and three great-grandchildren, Colin Cordes, Gabriel Murano and Ares Murano.

Service will be held on Sunday, June 28th from 2 – 4 PM at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US Hwy 206, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
