Obituary for Frank Viola

Frank Viola, 71, of Hillsborough, NJ, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Frank was born in Bronx, NY on October 10, 1947 to Joseph and Annette (nee: Bovio) Viola.
A talented singer, guitarist, and pianist, Frank loved music. He was a member of the Yeomen, a locally and regionally successful folk group throughout the 1960s. In the 1970s, he was leader of a band, the Passtymes, performing at social events.

After graduating high school, Frank enlisted in the Air Force. During his tenure, he was a flight line mechanic working on T-38 supersonic jet trainers. He was very proud of his service.
Upon discharge, Frank had a successful career in education. He impacted thousands of students’ lives by providing vocational education and job placement counseling while employed at Middlesex County Vocational Technical High School where he spent 39 years, retiring in 2012.

Frank and his family joined St. Joseph Parish in Hillsborough in 1987. While there, he participated in the music ministry and eventually became Music Director and leader of the 9:30am and 11:30am Sunday Mass choirs. It was a position he truly loved.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra (nee: McQuade), beloved children, Matthew and Anne Marie, Jonathan and Rebecca, Elizabeth and Thomas (Barrett), 5 grandchildren with a 6th child due in August. He also leaves behind numerous friends and relatives, including his brother, Anthony, of Boise, Idaho.
