Obituary for John D Puia
John Dominic Puia, 70, loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully on July 24, 2019 at Center for Hope Hospice.
John was was born in Donora, Pennsylvania on September 30, 1948 to the late Carmen Sr. and Helen Puia. He was raised in Manville, NJ and attended Somerset County Vocational School where he graduated as Valedictorian and class president. He went on to graduate from International Institute of Technology certified as a computer programmer. He was Vice President of Data Processing for United National Bank and ended his career in retail helping many people in the flooring department at Lowe’s.
John was married and raised his children in Hillsborough, NJ. He was a member of Mary Mother of God church. He enjoyed fixing his corvette, watching football, especially the Giants, renovations of houses, but most of all he enjoyed socializing with his friends and family. His five grandchildren were the delight of his life. John will be remembered most for his gentleness, infectious and unique sense of humor, his genuine heart and willingness to help others, as well as his love for Twilight Zone and Reese cups.
He is survived by his former wife Beth Puia of Hillsborough and their children; Amy Puia of Somerset; Daniel Puia of Hillsborough; Jenny Cuaresma and husband Albert of Montgomery; his five grandchildren Kory, Jaden, Gavin, Cici and Rex; his sister Sarah Payne of Whiting; his brother Frank and wife Marge of Las Vegas; his brother Carmen Jr. and wife Bonnie of Manville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John is also predeceased by his sister Josephine and her husband Norman Kirkpatrick; his brother Ralph and his wife Marilyn; his brother-in-law John Payne; and nephew Kenneth Payne.
A memorial mass will be held at 10am Tuesday, July 30th, in the Mary Mother of God Church, 157 S. Triangle Rd., Hillsborough, NJ 08844. Relatives and friends may start gathering at 9:30am, prior to the mass in the church.
