Obituary for Ronald L Ball

Ronald (Ron) Lee Ball of Hillsborough, NJ passed away peacefully at age 79 surrounded by his family, on September 30, 2020.

Ron was born June 10, 1941 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Daniel E. and Sarah H. (Case) Ball. The three moved to Elizabeth , NJ when he was an infant.
Ron worked for Goobleman Charts and Nashua Paper Company in the 60’s and 70’s. He began working for Wilner Livery Service in Edison, NJ. Ron was most proud of his 31 years that he served in the United States Navy. Ron joined the Navy in 1958 at age 17 and was fortunate to travel and see the world through many ports-of-call. He served on the USS John Paul Jones, USS Deyo and USS Clifton Sprague among other ships and earned many accolades and commendations throughout his career.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife Jean whom he cherished and adored. He is also survived by his 4 sons Ken and his wife Kathy of Willard, Ohio, Jeffrey of Herkimer, NY, Dave and his wife Julie of Ilion, NY and Ron and his wife Deana of Brick Twp., NJ, His step-son John Pero IV and his wife Kim of Keyser, WV, step-daughters Jennifer Castillo of Hillsborough, NJ and Christine (Bodo) Hirsch and her husband Michael of Hillsborough, NJ. Ron also leaves a legacy of 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Daniel and his fiancé Danielle of Parma, OH, Evan and his Wife Katie of Winder, GA. Jared and his fiancé Brittany of Sauquoit, NY, Justin of Herkimer, NY. Kiley and Connor of Ilion, NY, Devanna and Devin of Brick Twp., NJ, Dana Leehr of Hillsborough, NJ, Timothy Leehr of Helmetta, NJ, John Pero V (J.P.) of Bridgewater, NJ and Mason and Damien Hirsch of Hillsborough, NJ. Great-grandchildren Caleb Stephens, Ava Ball and Rylie Ball all of Winder, GA.

Ron enjoyed building model ships, building model planes to fly for his grandchildren, playing his guitar, and spending time with his family. ​He was patient, a great man and always fun to be around. He would help anyone in need and will always be remembered for his huge heart and bad dad jokes.

Visitation will be held Tuesday October 6, 2020 from 10:30-12:00 at Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 U.S. Hwy. 206, Hillsborough, NJ. Ron will be laid to rest at 1:30 with full honor guard ceremonies at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
