Obituary for Sam E Sponenberg

Sam Sponenberg, 82, of Hillsborough, New Jersey, passed away
peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, March 19, 2020 after a
long illness.

He was born on March 27, 1937 in Stillwater, Pennsylvania. He was the
son of the late Griffith Sponenberg and Vivian Shultz Hess. He joined
the U.S. Army after graduating from Berwick High School in 1955.

Sam was a member of the Bricklayers, Masons, and Plasterers Union
Local #5 (formerly of New Brunswick, New Jersey) until his retirement.
He was a lifelong member of the Berwick Elks Lodge. He was a resident
of Hillsborough since 1967.

He was predeceased by his brother, Carl Sponenberg, and sister, Ruth
Ann (Sponenberg) Bower.

Sam loved boating with his family at Lake Wallenpaupack in the
Poconos. He loved the outdoors, listening to music, some good laughs
and a beer. Sam had a lot of knowledge about numerous topics including
history and agriculture which he enjoyed sharing with friends and
family. He loved his home and his yard and was happiest spending time
there with his wife of 60 years, Rosalie.

Sam will be remembered as a self-made man whose main goal was to
create a good life for his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Rosalie (Kubasek) Sponenberg of Hillsborough,
Karen Sponenberg Shulack, also of Hillsborough, Jayne Sponenberg
Mangino of Hopewell Township, New Jersey, sons-in-law, Fred Mangino
and Peter Shulack, grandchildren Peter Shulack and Kevin Shulack, Sam
Mangino, and Nina Mangino, brother-in-law Carl Bower of Berwick,
Pennsylvania as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family has postponed services until a later date.
