Obituary for Thomas G Comyack

In the early hours of Monday, September 30th, 2019 Thomas George Comyack passed away due to a well fought fight against lung cancer, though he was not a smoker. Thomas was born September 19th, 1954 in Frankfurt, Germany to Claire and George Comyack. With his father being in the army, the family traveled but finally settled in Manville, New Jersey.

On May 7th, 1977 Thomas married the love of his life Roxane Clark. Together they had their two children Brent and Kelsey in Hillsborough, NJ.

Thomas is survived and will forever be remembered by his loving wife Roxane Comyack of 42 years, son Brent, daughter Kelsey, three sisters Jacquelyn Comyack, Patricia Rock with her children Thomas, Brian and Sandra, and Valerie Hanepen with her husband Carl and son Chance, as well as a great niece and a great nephew. His memory will live on through his family and countless friends.

He was predeceased by his mother Claire Comyack, father George Comyack and brothers George and Paul Comyack.

Thomas made a life and career with the military. Outside of that, his passions included deep sea fishing, giving back to others, traveling, creating family memories at Disney World, hunting in his youth, relaxing with his dogs, and spending time with his family and friends as much as possible. He was an extremely caring man who would go out of his way to lend a hand or offer advice. Thomas was known for a good time wherever he went. Be it a business conference or your regular party, he was a joy to be around and always supplied hilarious stories with a side of fireball. If you entered his home you were greeted with a huge warm welcome and the standard offer of fireball. Whether he knew you for years or just met you, the greeting was the same, filled with kindness, humor, and respect.

In the later years of his military career, Thomas is remembered for creating an internship program with Rowan University. Due to increasing federal requirements and decreasing funds, he worked with Rowan University in 2009 to develop an internship program that uses students to complete tasks for the New Jersey Army National Guard (NJARNG). This allowed the NJARNG to meet its federal requirements within the available budget and provided the students with real-life project experience that employers look for.

CW5 Comyack started his enlisted service with the New Jersey Army National Guard (NJARNG) as an Aviation Maintenance Technician in 1972, and received a Direct Appointment as a Supply Systems Technician Warrant Officer on 14 September 1984. Chief Comyack served in increasing levels of military responsibility, including an Active Duty deployment to support Operation Iraqi Freedom with service in Kuwait and Iraq; and culminating as the Command Property Accounting Officer assigned to Joint Force Headquarters, Joint Base McGuire- Dix- Lakehurst, NJ until his retirement November 18, 2016.

As a Military Technician, Mr. Comyack served many years with the Facilities Management Office of the New Jersey Guard, and was noted for accomplishments especially in the Energy Management field, including the concept and implementation of Rowan University’s Internship Program. Chief was also heavily involved with the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Association (USAWOA), serving as the Fort Dix Doughboy Chapter President from 2012-2013. For many years, Tom co-chaired the Doughboy Nominating Committee, and he chaired both the Care Package Committee for deployed Guardsmen, and the Chapter Scholarship Program which will bear his name. Chief Comyack was the first Doughboy Chapter member to receive The Honorable Order of the Eagle Rising – Gold Level Award from USAWOA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ft. Dix NJ Doughboy Chapter Scholarship Fund in Chief’s name, P.O. Box 54, JB-MDL, NJ 08640.
