GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Audrey Elaine Joy, 63, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Audrey was born September 18, 1955, in Camden, South Carolina. She was the first child born to Howard Joy, Sr. and Cornelia Keys Joy.
At the age of 5, Audrey moved with her family to Morristown, New Jersey, where she spent her formative years attending Morristown schools and graduated from Morristown High School in 1974. She went on to continue her educational studies at Morris County College, in Randolph, New Jersey.
The joy of Audrey’s life came in 1977 when she gave birth to her beloved son, James. Audrey was a loving and totally devoted mother. As a single mother, she balanced work and home to provide for her son. She ensured James was raised in a loving home and she was a strong positive image for him to emulate.
In 1986, Audrey and James moved to Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, where they were residents of Easton and most recently, Allentown. In Easton, Audrey became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she reaffirmed and dedicated her life to Christ.
While raising James, Audrey went on to pursue her career ambitions, working in the administrative field for various companies in the Northern New Jersey area, and later became a long time employee of Foster Wheeler in Clinton, New Jersey, until the company relocated in 2000. In 2003, she landed her dream job with Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A. in Bridgewater, New Jersey, where she worked as a loyal and dedicated Practice Support Coordinator until the time of her passing. Audrey truly loved her job!
Audrey was passionate about politics and supported many social and political causes. Most prominently, she was a major advocate for women’s rights and equality. While fighting her illness, she participated in several women’s marches across the country. There was hardly a moment that the television in her home or the radio in her car was not tuned to a cable news outlet.
Of all of Audrey’s passions, she loved her family most. She was the one that ensured the family would get together to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. She was the glue that kept the family close. Audrey also frequented social media. Primarily Facebook, and used the media as an avenue to link family members together that have never met. But most of all, Audrey loved spending time with James and her beloved grandson, Iziah. She so loved Iziah and Iziah loved his “Grammy.”
Audrey Joy’s departure from this earth will leave a void in our lives, but those to forever cherish her love, smile and caring ways are: her parents Howard Sr. and Cornelia Joy; son, James Green; grandson, Iziah Green; brothers Howard Jr., Michael and Gregory Joy (Dana); sister, Karen Joy-Wilson (Isaac); nieces, Sheena Joy, Joy and Asha Wilson and Jazmin Kersey; nephew Gregory Kier Joy.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019, with service directly following from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., at Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US Highway 206, Hillsborough, New Jersey.
Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2019, at Evergreen Cemetery, 65 Martin Luther King Ave., Morristown, New Jersey.
