Obituary for Marilyn A Staats

Marilyn Ann Staats, age 66, passed peacefully at Penn Medicine in Plainsboro Township, NJ after another relentless battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.

Marilyn was born on December 23, 1952 in Princeton, NJ to Anthony and Doris Colangelo (Seals) of Skillman, NJ. She was the second daughter of seven children. Marilyn was married on May 21, 1970 to William A. Staats, Sr. She and her husband moved to Vallejo, CA, after he was stationed to serve in the United States Navy. Soon after she returned home, as a lifelong resident, to Montgomery Township. Marilyn was a strong, resilient, and simple woman with an amazingly kind heart. She and Bill raised four children in their warm and welcoming home. Marilyn still found time to work and provide for her family, serving as a Court Administrator, for over 30 years, in Montgomery, Rocky Hill, and Somerville. She and her family enjoyed vacation time on Long Beach Island during the summer. Marilyn frequented Parx Casino, pressing her luck on the slots and card games. She was also an avid bowler, card, and bingo player. She and Bill were the proud hosts of the famous Staats 4th of July party where family and friends gathered every year. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, and Gigi/Grandma to a large and gracious family.

Marilyn is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Bill as well as her parents Anthony and Doris Colangelo, brother James Colangelo, and father in-law Robert Staats. She is survived by daughters, Stephanie and Amy, sons; Billy and wife Tina, Brian and wife Kelley and grandchildren; Brandon, Bryce, Tyler, Kyle, Christina, Jordyn, and Lainey. Her mother in law; Marie Staats, siblings; Leslie, Armida and husband Anthony, Christine and husband John, Anthony and wife Cheryl, and Maria and partner Mary. In addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visiting hours for family and friends will be Tuesday, July 9th, from 4 – 8 pm at the Hillsborough Funeral Home. Services will be held Wednesday, July 10th at 10:30 am, at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US HWY 206 Hillsborough, NJ, and will be followed by a burial in Highland Cemetery, Hopewell, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, for the Long Beach Township Memorial Bench Program, in honor of Marilyn A. Staats and William A. Staats, Sr.
